Built in 1809 by Isaac Chandler, a carpenter by trade, this Cape home
was in need of some 21st century remodeling. A careful renovation has
integrated new amenities and design with the beauty of the original architecture.
The original front cape has all the character and appeal any antique
house enthusiast would love to settle down in. The home is somewhat iconic
, as it has graced the cover of The Duxbury Book as well as an article
that we had published in South Shore Living Magazine in September of
2007 titled “Inspiring Architecture,
3 Antique houses updated for contemporary living .” pgs
31-33
The Cottage,
as it called, is just behind the kitchen and acts as a cozy new family
room. Originally built in the early 1700’s on the Island of
Nantucket, it was brought over to Duxbury about 70 years ago by barge and rolled
across the street at high tide and stuck on the kitchen ell of the home. The
Cottage required extensive repair, rebuilding, and matching materials from 3
centuries ago to make it look like we were never there, but making it livable
for the now.
The kitchen enjoys a Tuscan feel with glazed custom cabinetry, handmade
Italian tiles and the warm tones of copper and a dark exotic wood butcher
block island top. The Professional Series 48” Custom colored
Viking stove takes center stage while the Subzero Refrigerator and dual
Miele dishwashers are hidden behind there respectable matching cabinetry
panels.
At the rear of the house is the new Master Suite, consisting
of approximately 800 square feet with a luxurious bath, dressing room,
well-designed closet and spacious master bedroom. The homeowners wanted
to furnish the suite in classically styled custom cherry millwork, cabinetry,
flooring, and stairs. The details and craftsmanship that went into this
project, sets a new standard of custom built excellence for us.
